Growing up can be challenging, especially when navigating the complexities of identity and belonging. Many adolescents, particularly those who are first-generation or born outside the U.S., often feel caught between two worlds—the culture at home and the one they encounter every day. Without a strong support system, this journey can feel isolating.
ilé Àbò - Our Place is more than just a nonprofit—it’s a safe and welcoming community where adolescents from refugee, asylum-seeking, and immigrant backgrounds can truly be themselves. We provide mentorship, guidance, and culturally responsive programs that help young people navigate the challenges of growing up in two worlds.
Through our community-driven programs and our future vision of a brick-and-mortar center, we empower middle and high schoolers to embrace their heritage, develop life skills, and build the confidence to shape their futures. At ilé Àbò, every young person is seen, heard, and supported—because everyone deserves a place to belong.
To create a community of empowered, emotionally intelligent, financially literate and socially responsible adolescents with a refugee, asylum and/or immigrant background.
ilé Àbò - Our Place is guiding minority adolescents from refugee, asylum and immigrant backgrounds to discover their identities by cultivating new awareness, understanding, skills, mindsets, and values.
To fill a gap within the refugee, asylum and immigrant adolescent community. Focus on the important and many times overlooked aspects of growing up in two different worlds.
